2012 Heisman watch: Irish linebacker Manti Te'o 4th in ESPN's poll

Justin K. Aller

Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o is currently ranked fourth in ESPN's Heisman Watch.

Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o is currently fourth in ESPN's Heisman Watch heading into Saturday's game against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Te'o sits behind Kansas State's Collin Klein, Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel and Oregon's Kenjon Barner. The linebacker is looking to become just the second primarily defensive player to win the award.

Te'o put forth a steady effort in Notre Dame's 21-6 victory last Saturday over Boston College. He only recorded five tackles, but grabbed his sixth interception of the season. He has 90 total tackles and two sacks this year for a Fighting Irish defense that has been one of the best in the country.

Te'o and the Notre Dame defense should have similar success against Wake Forest on Saturday, as the Demon Deacons have struggled offensively this season. They are ranked 89th in passing and 114th in rushing, and are only scoring 20.1 points per game. That's good for 109th in the nation.

Wake Forest is 5-5 and coming off a 37-6 loss at the hands of North Carolina State.
