On the first possession of the game, Everett Golson led the Irish on a 13-play, 95-yard drive to put Notre Dame up 7-0. Golson capped off the push by running the ball for a 2-yard touchdown after completing 3-of-5 passes for 52 yards while Theo Riddick rushed four times for 25 yards on the drive. Notre Dame was 3-of-3 on third down and had five first downs on its scoring drive.
