Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly says QB Everett Golson is ready for Oklahoma

Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson will start for the Irish when they face Oklahoma on Saturday.

Everett Golson has passed a concussion test, and will start at quarterback for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish when they travel to Norman to take on the Oklahoma Sooners. Golson suffered the concussion on Oct. 13 against Stanford, and missed the team's game against BYU despite participating in practice that week. Tommy Rees started for Notre Dame, and played fairly well in the 17-14 Irish win.

Head coach Brian Kelly is confident that Golson is back to 100 percent:

"He feels great, very confident," coach Brian Kelly said Tuesday. "We wanted to do that (the cardio test) more because he hadn't had really the opportunity to get out there and run, and we didn't want to wait until Saturday where he's out there and we have some setbacks. He's good and 100 percent, and he'll start for us against Oklahoma on Saturday."

Golson is 79-135 for 968 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions on the season. He's also rushed 42 times for 81 yards and two touchdowns. He'll need to improve those numbers if the Irish want to hang around with Oklahoma, who are averaging 44.7 points a game this year compared to Notre Dame's 25.9. The Notre Dame defense should be able to slow down the Sooner offense, but the Irish will probably need to score more points than usual to win.
