Notre Dame vs. BYU odds: Irish nearly 2-touchdown favorites over Cougars

Brian Spurlock-US PRESSWIRE

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are nearly 2-touchdown favorites over BYU, a large number considering the Irish's offensive struggles and BYU's stout defense.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are nearly two-touchdown favorites over the BYU Cougars for their game on Saturday, Oct. 20th. The line opened at -14 for the Irish, and has shifted downward slightly as the week has progressed. Most houses have the game as either Notre Dame -13 or -13.5. The over/under for the game is only 40 points, but considering the strength of both teams are their defenses, it's not that low of a number. The over/under has drifted down from 41.5.

Notre Dame is 4-2 this season against the spread, while BYU is 3-4. Interestingly, Notre Dame is only 2-2 at home against the spread. The Irish and Cougars have both only hit the over once this year, making the under a tempting proposition. The average total points for games involving Notre Dame this year is 39.2.
