The Big Ten and Pac-12 college football conference announced on Friday they would not move forward with their planned long-term scheduling partnership. In a statement released by the Big Ten conference, commissioner James E. Delany noted some of the difficulties that prevented the two groups from establishing a schedule:

"We are disappointed to announce today that the Big Ten Pac-12 strategic collaboration announced jointly in December 2011 unfortunately will not be consummated. We recently learned from Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott that the complications associated with coordinating a non-conference football schedule for 24 teams across two conferences proved to be too difficult."

According to Delany, the chief difficulty proved to be the logistics of organizing the non-conference matchup, as well as previous non-conference commitments and the robust conference schedule of the Pac-12 conference.
