Nebraska Vs. Northwestern Final Score: Wildcats Win 84-74, End Losing Streak

The Northwestern Wildcats ended a three-game losing streak by beating the Nebraska Cornhuskers 84-74 at home on Thursday night. Northwestern had lost five of its past six games, all against Big Ten opponents, so this has to be viewed as a key win for the Wildcats.

After taking a 15-point lead into halftime, the Wildcats eventually had their lead trimmed to just 54-53 with a bit under 11 minutes remaining in the game. They got the lead back out to double-digits after that, though, before Nebraska made another run with just a couple minutes left. Consecutive three-pointers by Nebraska had Northwestern leading by three points with just under two minutes in the game.

John Shurna had a huge game for Northwestern, scoring 28 points on 9-of-13 shooting while playing all 40 minutes. Drew Crawford also added 21 points, Dave Sobolewski had 15 points, six rebounds and five assists, and reserve Davide Curletti dished eight assists. Bo Spencer led Nebraska in scoring with 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting.

Northwestern Vs. Nebraska Preview: Wildcats Look To Break Losing Streak Against Struggling Cornhuskers

The Northwestern Wildcats (12-8, 2-6 Big Ten) hope to climb out of the Big Ten basement as they square up against the Nebraska Cornhuskers (11-9, 3-6). Northwestern, having lost three consecutive games -- three consecutive conference games -- look for a bounce-back effort against a Cornhuskers team fighting to stay above .500.

The Thursday night match gets a national audience with ESPN2 broadcasting the contest. And with the nation watching, the Cornhuskers will need serious production from their top offensive weapon, senior G Bo Spencer, who leads the team with 14.9 points per game.

Northwestern, meanwhile, will look for continued excellence from senior F John Shurna (19 PPG, 5.9 rebounds per game) and junior G-F Drew Crawford (17.2 PPG, 4.8 RPG) against a Nebraska basketball team that has not had a winning streak since mid-December.
