The Northwestern Wildcats have faced a surprising challenge in the opening half against Central Connecticut St., as a last second three-pointer from John Shurna gave the Wildcats the 30-29 lead at halftime.
While Shurna struggled with his shot from the field, the senior forward produced a solid first half for Northwestern. Shurna scored a team-high eight points on 3/9 shooting from the field. Senior center Luka Mirkovic added six points and a team-high five boards in the opening 20 minutes. However, Northwestern really struggled to find its groove on the offensive end, as the Wildcats shot only 38.7% from the field as a team.
Central Connecticut St. received a tremendous performance from Kyle Vinales in the opening half, as he scored 17 points on 7/12 shooting from the field. Ken Horton added eight points and five boards for CCSU.
