2012 Super Bowl Score Update: Giants Dominate Opening Quarter

If you were willing to bet that the opening points of the Super Bowl would come from a safety, you would be a much wealthier individual right now. While the New York Giants opened the scoring with a safety from an intentional grounding penalty, that one play was only a small indication of the level of dominance New York exhibited in the opening quarter.

Eli Manning was in complete control of the offense during the opening 15 minutes. The New York Giants QB completed all nine of his attempts and threw a TD pass to Victor Cruz late in the first quarter. Hakeem Nicks was active in the first quarter, making two catches for 24 yards.

While Tom Brady would certainly like to have the intentional grounding throw back, he did get into a rhythm at the end of the quarter. Brady completed 4/5 throws for 43 yards, with Wes Welker making a key 19-yard reception on the lone extended drive for New England.
