The Illinois Fighting Illini announced on Tuesday that sophomore Crandall Head has left the school's basketball program and will seek a transfer to a different school. Head, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard out of Richton Park, Ill., played only intermittently over the past two years.
Head, the younger brother of former Fighting Illini star and NBA player Luther Head, averaged 1.0 points, 0.6 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game in nine games with Illinois this season. He was suspended for the team's first two games of the season. Head explained his decision on the school's website:
I still have love for my teammates and coaches and wish them the best, but I've come to the decision that I need to make a fresh start. I want to thank the program and fans for the all the support they gave me during my time in Champaign.
Illinois head coach Bruce Weber expressed his disappointment with Head's decision, but the Fighting Illini will trek forward with a starting backcourt of Brandon Paul and Sam Maniscalco. A report from ESPN Chicago mentions that Head has said that he's considering UNLV as a possible destination.
