Illinois Vs. Michigan Score Update: Wolverines Earn 31-14 Win

Despite generating some offense during the second half, Illinois was unable to overcome an early deficit and fell 31-14 against No. 24 Michigan. The Wolverines were led by an outstanding performance from sophomore RB Fitzgerald Toussaint, who ran for 197 yards and a TD in the win.

Michigan managed to put together 2 TD drives in the fourth quarter despite an injury to Denard Robinson. The explosive QB left the game in the third quarter following a pair of hard hits from the Illinois defense. However, backup QB Devin Gardner threw a 27-yard TD pass to Martavious Odoms, which gave the Wolverines the momentum following an Illinois TD.

After a sluggish first half, Illinois QB Nathan Scheelhaase engineered a pair of TD drives to help keep the Fighting Illini in the game. Scheelhaase completed 16/31 for 170 yards and added a rushing TD in the loss. Jason Ford added a rushing TD for Illinois.

Michigan faces an enormous test next week when it hosts No. 19 Nebraska. Illinois will look to put an end to its four-game losing streak when it hosts No. 18 Wisconsin.

Illinois Vs. Michigan Score Update: Late Illinois TD Makes Score 17-7 Heading Into Fourth Quarter

Illinois generated a little bit of momentum heading into the fourth quarter of its matchup with No. 24 Michigan, as Nathan Scheelhaase ran for a 9-yard TD to make the score 17-7. Despite being dominated for much of the game, the Fighting Illini are within striking distance thanks to a strong defensive display.

Although Michigan has gained 303 yards, Illinois has done an excellent job of keeping the Wolverines out of the endzone. While Denard Robinson has rushed for 2 TD's, the Fighting Illini have forced four turnovers, which is the reason they are still in this game. Sophomore RB Fitzgerald Toussaint has been tough to contain, rushing for 157 yards.

Prior to its TD drive, Illinois had been forced to punt on eight of its first 10 drives. However, Scheelhaase led the Fighting Illini on a vital 75-yard TD drive to generate momentum heading into the final 15 minutes.

Illinois Vs. Michigan Score Update: Michigan Leads 14-0 At Halftime

The Illinois offense continues to lack the ability to sustain drives, as the Fighting Illini trail Michigan 14-0 at the half. The Wolverines had no issues moving the ball down the field, gaining 249 yards in the first half, while Illinois was limited to only 30 total yards.

The explosive Denard Robinson scored two rushing TD's for the Wolverines in the opening half and was solid throwing the ball, completing 6/9. Sophomore RB Fitzgerald Toussaint was a force rushing the ball for the Wolverines, as he ran for 134 yards on 18 carries.

Illinois struggled to find any momentum on offense, as Justin DuVernois has been already been forced to punt six times. The running game has been particularly poor, with senior RB Jason Ford leading the way with only 12 yards on four carries.

Illinois Vs. Michigan Score Update: Wolverines Dominate Opening Quarter

Despite being dominated in nearly every statistical category over the opening 15 minutes, Illinois "only" trails No. 24 Michigan 7-0 after the opening quarter. The lone score of the game came from Denard Robinson, as he ran in from nine yards out to give the Wolverines the lead.

Michigan RB Fitzgerald Toussaint was unstoppable in the opening quarter, rushing for 131 yards on 11 carries. The versatile Denard Robinson added 23 yards rushing and a TD. The Wolverines gained 182 total yards, while Illinois was limited to just 13 yards. The Illinois defense did force a key fumble late in the first quarter, which prevented Michigan from extending its league.
