The Fighting Illini start the 2011-2012 basketball season against in-state, out-of-conference rival, the Loyola Ramblers.
The Illinois Fighting Illini begin their 2011-2012 basketball season tonight, hosting the Loyola of Chicago Ramblers tonight with tip-off at 8:00 p.m. CST.
The Fighting Illini look to start the season on a good note, adding another win to their previously successful series against the Ramblers. Having won only 3 of their 14 games against the Illini, the Ramblers figure to be a considerable underdog tonight, but the Illini have no small task in replacing three starting seniors from last year, including G Demetri McCamey who led the team with a 14.8 PPG in the 2010-2011 season.
With a roster consisting of six different freshman, the Illini have needed to reinvent themselves somewhat this off-season. Tonight's game will be an early test for the new Illini team, which must find a new rebounds leader and assists leader.
