The DePaul Blue Demons needed a second half rally to fight off a near upset from the Chicago State Cougars.

The DePaul Blue Demons were nearly upset by the Chicago State Cougars on Wednesday. Chicago State held a 14-point halftime lead before DePaul was able to rally back for a 74-64 victory.

Chicago State (2-8) got out to a 44-30 lead at the half, but were held to just 20 points on 5-of-26 shooting in the second half. The Blue Demons held the Cougars without a field goal for the first 8:15 of the second half and forced 13 second-half turnovers.

Brandon Young led the way for DePaul (5-3) with 21 points and admitted after the game that DePaul did not take Chicago State seriously coming into the game. "We thought we were going to come out here and get an easy win, which it wasn't," Young said.

With the win DePaul improved to 11-0 lifetime against Chicago State in a series that dates back to 1992. DePaul hosts the Milwaukee Panthers on Sunday, Dec. 9.
