Rays vs. White Sox final score: Skidding Chicago drops series finale, 6-2

The late September woes continued for the Chicago White Sox on Sunday afternoon, as Robin Ventura's team fell to Tampa Bay, 6-2, to drop three games out of the American League Central race.

Tampa Bay lefty David Price tossed seven strong innings of two-run ball to earn his career-high 20th victory of the season, while Chicago's Jose Quintana served up four runs over just four innings to take the loss.

Losers of nine of their last 11 games, the White Sox were once again flustered offensively on Sunday at a time when they simply could not afford to go cold from the plate. Owner of two of his team's five hits overall, slugger Paul Konerko did manage to raise his season average to .297 with a 2-for-4 day, but was one of few bright spots in a dismal four-game series.

Down three games to the Detroit Tigers with three remaining, the White Sox will need to sweep their upcoming three-game set with Cleveland and hope for some luck from the baseball gods. Left-hander Hector Santiago will take the ball on Monday to open the three-game set with his team's season on the line.
