A.J. Pierzynski might be playing his last home game for the White Sox

Dennis Wierzbicki-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Chicago White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski knows that Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays could be his last home game at U.S. Cellular Field.

A.J. Pierzynski recognizes the way the business side of baseball works, and he knows that Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays could be his last home game for the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.

The 35-year-old told CSN Chicago that he hopes to return to the team he's spent the past eight seasons with, but he's also being realistic.

"I would love to come back and finish my career here, but at the same time I know how baseball works," Pierzynski said. "I know the way things work and we'll see."

Pierzynski is coming off the final year of a two-year contract, and despite his age the catcher has held up incredibly well. His 27 home runs this season are his career high, and entering Sunday's game his 76 RBI are only one off his career best.

Along with Paul Konerko, Pierzynski is the only other remaining member of the White Sox's 2005 World Series championship team.

The 14-year MLB veteran told CSN Chicago that he will seek a contract that is worthy of his production and won't take a pay cut to remain with the White Sox.
