Gordon Beckham Thrives In September As White Sox Push For Playoffs

Stay connected for news and updates

Chicago White Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham has enjoyed a successful September, a far cry from the slumps he found himself in for almost all of April and July.

In April, Beckham hit .153 with only two RBI. In July, he hit .188 with four RBI. But in September, perhaps the most important regular season month for his playoff contending White Sox, Beckham has hit .333 with three home runs and eight RBI in 12 games.

Slumping in April is tolerable if you're red-hot in September--it's all about how you look at it. Beckham knows that, and while he is certainly upset at his lack of production for more than two months of the regular season, he believes he has "turned a corner", writes Dan Hayes of Comcast Sports Net.

"I won't forgive myself for not doing really anything in April and I won't forgive myself for really struggling for a month-and-a-half in June to a little bit of August," Beckham said. "The production I have, it's great because I really didn't do anything for 2 1/2 months. ... But I want to be better and that's stuff I have to work on. At the end of the day I feel I've turned a corner mentally and just understanding the game and playing the right way. In the last month I think I've really done that."

Beckham's recent hot streak has come at a most vital time for the Chicago White Sox. They find themselves only two games ahead of the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central with only 16 games remaining in the season.
