The Chicago White Sox will not have to re-play their game against the Los Angeles Angels from last Friday. According to Mike DiGiovanna of the L.A. Times, the MLB has said no-deal to Angels' manager Mike Scioscia and his protest from the crucial first inning of Friday's game:
As expected, MLB hasa denied
— Mike DiGiovanna (@MikeDiGiovanna) August 6, 2012#Angels protest of Friday night's loss to#White Sox.
In the first inning, a ground ball from 1B Paul Konerko resulted in a fielder's choice at home plate, but the Angels could not turn the double play as the throw to first pulled 1B Albert Pujols off the bag. Scioscia then filed a protest, saying Konerko had interfered with the play by veering from the base path.

Newly acquired Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Francisco Liriano was struck in the right quad by a Maicer Izturis ground ball in the fifth inning of his start on Sunday vs. the Los Angeles Angels, but the team said Sunday night that he's suffering no ill effects as a result. Liriano was removed after the injured area began to cramp up, but the White Sox said that they anticipate him making his next start.

The White Sox claimed bragging rights of the weekend series against the Angels with a 4-2 victory in Chicago on Sunday. This one went scoreless through four innings until Angels rookie sensation Mike Trout hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to give LA a 1-0 lead.
Kevin Youkilis tied the game with a solo home run to left field in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Then, with Francisco Liriano already done for the day and Nate Jones on the hill for the Sox, Torii Hunter gave the Angels their second one-run lead of the game with an RBI single.
That's when A.J. Pierzynski came up big in the seventh with a two-run shot, and Alexei Ramirez hit an RBI triple in the eighth as the explanation point for Chicago.
Jones got the win, pushing his record to 4-0 for the season. Liriano gave up one earned run, four hits and struck out four in five innings of work.

With the Chicago White Sox's series vs. the Los Angeles Angels hanging in the balance, manager Robin Ventura has decided to send out his standard starting lineup on what should be a rather cool Sunday afternoon in Chicago. The White Sox will be facing Angels starter Dan Haren, who has been stellar in his last two starts.
Here are Sunday's lineups for both squads:

The Chicago White Sox's chances at a sweep were wiped away on Saturday night after losing in extra innings to the Los Angeles Angels, but they can still end the weekend with a series victory with a win on Sunday. A win would keep the White Sox in first place, but Chicago could conceivably end up battling the Angels for a wild card win, so a head-to-head victory could be crucial somewhere down the line.
Francisco Liriano will be making his second start as a member of the White Sox, and his first at home. In his first start, Liriano returned to Minnesota to face his old team, allowing two earned runs in six innings while striking out eight batters. He'll have a bit of a tougher task on Sunday though, as both the Angels lineup and Chicago's home stadium are less forgiving to pitchers.
The Angels will counter with Dan Haren, the sometime ace who is having an uncharacteristically rough season. That said, Haren has been stellar in the second half so far this year, allowing only three earned runs in 12 innings across two starts.

Chicago White Sox SP Gavin Floyd struggled against the powerful Los Angeles Angels lineup on Saturday, but Chicago managed to keep in the game until the top of the 10th inning, when RP Matt Thornton (L, 4-7) gave up the lead and the Sox lost 6-5.
Floyd lasted 6 and 1/3 innings, but he allowed 5 earned runs on 8 hits, 3 walks and 1 home run, while striking out 6. Meanwhile, 3B Kevin Youkilis went 2 for 3 with a pair of home runs and a walk, and C A.J. Pierzynski managed to crank his 20th homer of the season in his 5 ABs.
The Sox collected a pair of runs off RP LaTroy Hawkins to tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the 7th inning, but Thornton allowed a two-out double and single to put Los Angeles up by 1, leading to the 6-5 loss.

The Chicago White Sox continue to find ways to win games, and after extra-inning heroics from Alex Rios on Friday night they are back at it on Saturday in game two of their weekend set against the Los Angeles Angels. The Sox still oddly have more wins on the road (30-25) than they do at home (28-22), but the crowds at U.S. Cellular Field have been growing and now Robin Ventura's squad seems to be finding its groove at home. The Sox have won four straight and nine their last 10 games at home.
Gavin Floyd gets the start for Chicago on Saturday, while the Angels will counter with Ervin Santana. Here is a look at the game time and TV schedule for Saturday.

The White Sox pulled out a victory against the Angels on Friday night when Alex Rios banged a two-run walk off shot deep to center field, giving the Chicago an 8-6 win in 10 innings. That was Rios' second home run of the night, giving him four total RBIs. He went 3-for-5 at the plate.
The Angels had their share of moments of power, when Mike Trout and Albert Pujols both hit home runs for Los Angeles. Chicago trailed 6-5 in the seventh inning before Alejandro De Aza's RBI double gave the White Sox a chance to compete in extras.
Matt Thornton was the winning pitcher for Chicago, while Hisanori Takahashi picked up the loss.

According to CSN Chicago's Dan Hayes, the Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms with free agent veteran OF DeWayne Wise and also, in an unrelated transaction, finished the RP Brett Myers trade, sending prospect SP Chis Devenski to the Houston Astros:
— Dan Hayes (@DanHayesCSN) August 3, 2012
#WhiteSox agreed to terms w/ Dewayne Wise on a minor-league deal. Also completed Brett Myers deal with#Astros: sent Chris Devenski as PRBNL
Wise, 34, started the season with the New York Yankees, where he hit a power-heaver .262/.286/.492 slash while playing all three outfield positions. The former reserve outfielder for the White Sox has sealed a particular spot in Chicago history as he made an astounding catch in the outfield to preserve SP Mark Buehrle's perfect game in 2009.
Devenski, 21, has a 4.23 ERA and 4.21 FIP through 61 and 2/3 innings with the Sox A-Ball affiliate.
