Brett Myers Update: Veteran Pitcher Excited For Chicago

Stay connected for news and updates

With the chance to go from a struggling team to a potential playoff squad, Brett Myers has every right to be excited about his trade to the Chicago White Sox. Myers, who was dealt for pitchers Matt Heidenreich and Blair Walters, told Brian McTaggart that he is looking forward to the chance to compete for a championship:

"They’re in first place," he said. "I’m pumped about that and to play for a team that’s fighting for a championship. That’s why I play the game, to win championships."

The White Sox gave up two talented young pitchers in the trade. Heidenreich, who was a 4th round pick, compiled a 9-4 record in the minors this season. Walters is 4-6 this season in 18 starts at the minor-league level. This deal also makes sense financially for the White Sox, who according to Jon Heyman of CBS, are only responsible for part of his contact:

@jonheymancbs: only responsible for $1M of myers' deal this year. also received $ toward '13 salary or buyout.
