MLB Mock Draft 2012: College Pitcher Michael Wacha To White Sox In Baseball America Mock

The Chicago White Sox have a reputation of being conservative drafters, and the most conservative play in the MLB draft is taking a college pitcher. Naturally, the White Sox have been linked to various college pitchers who can hopefully move through a minor league system quickly en route to the majors. If the White Sox do decide to go in that direction, they'll be able to pick from a wide selection of college arms, including righty Michael Wacha of Texas A&M, who is tabbed by Jim Callis of Baseball America in his final mock draft:

Here is Callis on the selection:

13. WHITE SOX. Chicago would pounce on [Courtney] Hawkins but likely will have to choose between college arms. If [Kyle] Zimmer dropped, he wouldn't get past the White Sox. Many scouting directors say Duke righthander Marcus Stroman has the best arm in this draft and will race to the major leagues, but his 5-foot-9 frame has them looking at other options. Chicago could be the highest landing place for Stroman, though the Sox would prefer [Andrew] Heaney or Wacha.
Projected Pick: MICHAEL WACHA.
