Addison Reed Pleases White Sox With Effort As Closer

Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura praised rookie Addison Reed's effort as he establishes himself in the closer's role recently while speaking with Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago. The 23-year-old has saved nine of the ten save opportunities that he's had thus far in his short career.

I don’t know if it’s arrogance, but it’s just confidence. I think all closers have a certain amount of it and he has it. He’s never come in and looked scared or unconfident at all. That’s just the way he came.

Over 28 appearances this season, Reed has posted a 3.96 ERA with 27 strikeouts and 10 walks. His FIP, which stands at 2.74 this year, reflects a higher level of performance, though. It's also impressive that Reed has done all this while essentially using one pitch; according to FanGraphs, he's thrown his mid-90's fastball over 80 percent of the time this year.
