The White Sox and Cubs square off for the first inner-city matchup of the 2012 MLB season -- and Adam Dunn will get his first chance in the last four years to play left field.
The Chicago White Sox have an extra challenge heading into their weekend series against the Chicago Cubs. Because the game will take place in the Cubs' home stadium of Wrigley Field, the Sox will be forced to play without their designated hitter position -- leaving the team's best two hitters, 1B Adam Dunn and 1B Paul Konerko, one position short of a proper lineup.
Well, according to ESPN Chicago, the southsiders will opt to start Dunn in left field for the first time since 2009. According to Dunn, the transition from DH to LF should not be a major problem:
"I have been taking some fly balls in left, but you can't simulate how it will go in a game," Dunn said. "I anticipate it will go good; once I get out there I am sure it will all come back."
Advanced statistics such as Ultimate Zone Rating suggest Dunn is possibly the worst fielder of the last decade.
