Adam Dunn's Strikeout Streak Reaches The Cusp Of History

When the Chicago White Sox host the Kansas City Royals on Friday night, designated hitter Adam Dunn will have a chance to make a dubious sort of history: if Dunn strikes out, he will tie the major league record for the most consecutive games with a strikeout. Bill Stoneman's record of 37 consecutive games with a strikeout has held since 1972, and now it's in serious jeopardy.

On Wednesday against the Cleveland Indians, Dunn went down swinging on four pitches to Jeanmar Gomez to push his K streak to 36 games. That tied him for the second longest streak of all-time with Bob Veale, who's own strikeout streak ended in 1968.

Here's another fun fact: both Stoneman and Veale were pitchers who streaks spanned multiple seasons.

Dunn already has the record for most consecutive games with a strikeout for a position player by eight games. Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, the previous record holder for a position player, struck out in 28 consecutive games from 2008-2009.
