Despite their issues at the plate, though, the White Sox had a chance to turn the game around in the ninth inning. After getting the first two outs of the inning, Baltimore closer Jim Johnson loaded the bases, giving Alex Rios a chance to get his team back in the game. But Rios struck out looking to end the threat.
With the loss, Chicago fell to 6-6 on the season; the Orioles improved to 8-5.

The Chicago White Sox have been waiting for over two years for 2B Gordon Beckham to regain his rookie season excellence. In 2009, Beckham hit 14 homers with an impressive .351 weighted on base average (wOBA), but since then, he has not mustered a wOBA over .305.
White Sox manager Robin Ventura tried to help tweak Beckham's approach this offseason, and though Beckham is still looking to find a rhythm this season, Venture thinks he will eventually sort it out:
"Any time you do something different, it's going to take a little time. But it's not like we're asking him to hit left-handed," manager Robin Ventura said prior to Thursday's game. "We're just asking him to get started a little earlier. It's something that happens to most guys -- everybody changes an approach or tinkers with things enough during the season that you're used to doing that. I don't see it taking a whole long time for him to do that."
The team's new hitting coach, Jeff Manto, echoed the manager's sentiments:
"What we're asking is not invasive at all," Manto said. "It's a very easy fix -- it's a timing mechanism, it's not like we're moving hands, moving feet, moving heads -- it's just a matter of getting your foot down and the at-bat's over. Let the at-bat take care of itself once you get ready to hit. If we got a little bit to where it's invasive, that would be a problem."
Beckham is not in Thursday's lineup, but is expected to return soon.

The Chicago White Sox (6-5) need a win on Thursday to earn a series split against the Baltimore Orioles (7-5), and Robin Ventura has inserted Brent Lillibridge in the No. 2 hole -- while leaving Dayan Viciedo down at No. 7 -- in the hopes of generating some offense at that spot in the order. Tyler Flowers gets the start at catcher in place of the red-hot A.J. Pierzynski, and Eduardo Escobar gets the call at second base. Here is a look at the complete lineups for both teams:

The Chicago White Sox (6-5) dropped two of their first three games against the Baltimore Orioles (7-5) during a rain-drenched series, but they get a chance to earn a split with a win in a Thursday afternoon matchup at U.S. Cellular Field. Gavin Floyd takes the mound for the Sox in a follow-up to his six innings of scoreless ball thrown against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, while the Orioles turn to Jason Hammel. The former Rockies starter is coming off a less-than-spectacular pitching performance against the Toronto Blue Jays, but he carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning of his first regular season start in 2012 and has been good so far this year.
The Sox bats have gotten off to a slow start again this season -- aside from catcher A.J. Pierzynski, who has been killing the ball -- and Zach Meisel of MLB.com caught up with slugger Paul Konerko, who says it's unfair to judge the Sox on such a small sample size:
Veteran first baseman Paul Konerko stressed how important it is to not get caught up in such a small sample size, just a couple weeks into the season.
"Everybody is kind of guilty early in the year," Konerko said, "looking at a 20 or 30 at-bat sample and making judgments off of that. Even smart people.
"Everybody knows it's wrong and still does it. A tradition, I guess. It's up to the players. ... There's a lot of distractions in the big leagues, and if it was just about playing the game it would be a lot easier."
Here is the key information you need to locate today's game.

After a pair of frustrating losses to open a four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday and Tuesday, the Chicago White Sox finally knocked off the O's on Wednesday night at U.S. Cellular Field. Chicago routed Baltimore 8-1 behind a strong outing from starter Jake Peavy and consistent hitting throughout the lineup.

Chicago scored two in the second, one run in the third and the fourth, and runs in the sixth. The win moves the White Sox to 6-5 overall, while Baltimore falls to 7-5.
Peavy was the star for Chicago. He went seven innings, allowing just four hits and one earned run while striking out eight and walking none. Baltimore jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second on a double by right fielder Endy Chavez, but the Sox would answer back when catcher A.J. Pierzynski clubbed a two-run homer. The game was broken apart for good in the sixth when Adam Dunn lined a double to left field to score three.

If the Chicago White Sox want to avoid having a losing record for the first time in well over a week, they'll have to beat the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night. After winning five of its first seven games, Chicago has lost three straight to drop to 5-5 overall on the season.
Now, the White Sox wil need a win against Baltimore to avoid dropping below .500 for the first time since being 1-2 on April 8. After that loss, Chicago reeled off four straight victories to build up some early-season optimism. With the team struggling against an Orioles squad that didn't have much hype coming into the season, some of that excitement has been tempered.
Another strong outing from White Sox starter Jake Peavy on Wednesday could go a long way towards getting that win, though. The oft-injured pitcher looked good in his first two appearances for Chicago this season, both White Sox victories. He'll be going against Orioles starter Tommy Hunter, who is also 1-0 this season.

The Chicago White Sox had three innings to score a single run and tie up their game with the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night. They couldn't do it. Baltimore scored three runs in the sixth inning and nothing else, but it was good enough to propel the O's to a 3-2 win over the Sox. The win moves Baltimore to 7-4, while the White Sox fall to 5-5.
Left fielder Nolan Reimold hit a two-run homer off of White Sox starter John Danks to gets scoring started in the sixth. Shortstop J.J. Hardy was the next batter, and he also took Danks deep for a solo homer. The White Sox would answer in their half of the inning when A.J. Pierzynski doubled to deep right to score Brent Morel and Paul Konerko. Chicago wouldn't score again and the game ended 3-2.

The Chicago White Sox had game one of their three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles under control on Monday night, but things turned sour very quickly when the bullpen got hit hard. The Sox took a 4-1 lead into the eighth inning, but a home run parade by Baltimore moved the game to extra innings and eventually turned into 10-4 Orioles win. On Tuesday, John Danks takes the mound for a 7:10 CT start at the Cell and he will try to stop the first losing streak the Sox have suffered in the young MLB season.
The Orioles bats have been hot, but the most interesting storyline of Monday's game is Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen, a left-handed pitched from Taiwan who his making the second major league start of his career. Here is a bit of a primer on Chen from South Side Sox:
Wei-Yin Chen (can't wait to hear Bill Melton talk about him) is a new import from the NPB. The Taiwanese southpaw had Tommy John surgery when he was 21 (he's 26 now). He had a 1.54 ERA in 2009, which was the lowest in the NPB since 1968. He appears to have a low-90s four seamer, a slider, a curveball, and a changeup. Here's a link to his stats from across the pond. Best of luck with it.
Here is the key information for today's game.

The Chicago White Sox took a 4-1 lead into the eighth inning and 4-2 lead into the ninth inning tonight at U.S. Cellular Field against the Baltimore Orioles, but a bullpen implosion cost Chicago the victory. The Orioles hit a pair of solo home runs in the ninth to tie the game and scored six runs in the 10th to defeat the White Sox 10-4. The loss drops Chicago to 5-4, while Baltimore improves to 6-4.
New closer Hector Santiago allowed home runs to pinch hitter Nolan Reimold and then center fielder Adam Jones to blow the save for the Sox. Once it got to extras, the South Siders didn't have a chance. Cather Matt Wieters hit a grand slam as part of of a six-run 10th inning. All runs were credited to White Sox reliever Zach Stewart.
A.J. Pierzynski hit his third home run of the season in the second inning for the White Sox.
