John Danks Will Start Opening Day For The Chicago White Sox

There was a time on the South Side when Mark Buehrle's name could be written in ink as the annual Opening Day starter for the Chicago White Sox. But with Buehrle fleeing this offseason to rejoin his former manager Ozzie Guillen in Miami as a member of the Marlins, the Sox announced today that pitcher John Danks will take the ball on Friday, April 6 when Chicago opens the season in Texas against the Rangers.

Considering Danks is a Texas native, the honor should carry added significance.

Danks started last season 0-8, which helped turn 2011 into the worst year of his career. Danks posted a 4.33 ERA in 27 starts and fished the season 8-12. This December, Danks inked a five-year contract extension with the White Sox.
