Gavin Floyd Rumors: Orioles Showed Interest, Nearly Completed Deal During Offseason

The Baltimore Orioles were among the teams that showed interest in White Sox pitcher Gavin Floyd during the offseason, and serious discussions between both sides nearly led to the completion of a trade, according to Danny Knobler of CBS Sports.

Floyd is available again this spring, one of several starting pitchers on what could still be a busier-than-usual spring training market. Will the White Sox actually trade him this time? It's entirely possible. General manager Ken Williams is said to be anxious to make moves to improve a club that has been unimpressive in the early games of spring training.

Floyd, 29, is one of Chicago's most valuable assets, so the team is presumably expecting a significant return in any trade. Last season, he posted a 4.37 ERA over 193 innings, but defense-independent metrics have been more bullish on his performance.

The pitcher is owed $7 million for the 2012 season and the White Sox hold a $9.5 million club option for 2013.
