According to Hardball Talk, the Texas Rangers are interested in Chicago White Sox free agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski. The Rangers have been after help at the position all offseason, and on top of that, they're looking for lefties. Pierzynski certainly fits the bill, and would seem to pair well with Geovany Soto, who agreed to a one-year deal earlier in the offseason.

The White Sox want to bring Pierzynski back, but they've expressed recently that they're ready to move on if he decides to go elsewhere. This means they're not going to break the bank for the kind of money Pierzynski wants to get.

Pierzynski had a career year in 2012, in which he hit .278 with 27 home runs and had an OPS of .827 in 135 games. As noted by Hardball Talk, he'd never hit more than 18 home runs before and hadn't topped .800 OPS since 2003.

If Pierzynski goes elsewhere, the White Sox could go with Tyler Flowers as their starting catcher.
