White Sox's Hector Santiago headed to winter ball

The White Sox might not be playing baseball after their season ends Wednesday, but Hector Santiago will. He's scheduled to participate in winter ball in the Puerto Rican league for the fifth consecutive winter.

Santiago shared what he hopes to work on this winter with Dan Hayes of CSNChicago.com:

"First-pitch strikes. First-pitch strikes are probably the biggest thing I needed to work on (this year) and being able to get (offspeed) stuff over early instead of throwing my fastball every single first pitch. I’ve been a fastball-first pitch guy all year."

Santiago has gone from the team's closer to reliever to starter as he tries to find his role with the White Sox. Santiago, in his second year with the White Sox, was 4-1 with a 3.33 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 42 games. Santiago also has four saves and four starts this season.

The White Sox will finish second in the American League Central this year behind the Detroit Tigers.
