White Sox vs. Indians preview: Chicago concludes up-and-down season

Stay connected for news and updates

A few weeks ago, the Chicago White Sox probably did not envision their 2012 season ending with a meaningless game against the Cleveland Indians. But that is where they stand on Wednesday after having played their way out of first place in the American League Central and, in turn, a playoff spot. But finish the season they will, with Gavin Floyd on the mound facing Cleveland's David Huff.

For Floyd, 2012 was also a bit of a roller coaster. Coming into Wednesday, he's made either four or five starts in each of the season's six months. In four of those months (April, June, July and currently September), Floyd has posted ERAs better than 4.50. In the two other months, though, Floyd was awful, posting ERAs of 7.06 and 5.96. In total, Floyd will enter Wednesday's game with a 4.47 ERA, which is right at his career average of 4.49.

Huff, meanwhile, has appeared in five games for Cleveland, all in September. He's started three of those five, giving up seven earned runs in 16 innings. He has not faced the White Sox this season.

The game starts at 6:05 p.m. CT, with CSN carrying the broadcast.
