Sox Comeback Not Quite Enough For Win

Once again, Philip Humber allowed four runs. As with his last three starts, Humber got into a bit of trouble early and it cost the Sox another game as a result.

Humber’s overall stat line was too bad, with four earned runs given up on eleven hits over 6.0 innings pitched, but it once again gave the South Siders an early hill to climb. The first of the runs allowed came on a J.J. Hardy home run in the bottom of the first frame, with the rest added after a parade of hits in the bottom of the second, and an Adam Jones home run in the bottom of the fifth.

The Sox made a comeback after Humber left the game, finally getting to Tommy Hunter, who ended up with a line of 6.2 innings pitched and four runs given up on seven hits. The first Sox run came in the top of the sixth, as Paul Konerko managed to drive in Juan Pierre, who had doubled to lead off the inning. The Sox then tied the game in the seventh off of RBI hits by Brent Morel and Juan Pierre.

But, though the bullpen managed to keep it close through nine innings, Nolan Reimold launched a two run homer off of Jason Frasor in the bottom of the tenth inning to seal the game for the O’s.

The Sox will go for a series victory over the O’s on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 P.M., CDT.
