Sox Clinch Important Series With Tigers

We are now two games in to the second half of the season, and the White Sox couldn’t have picked a better time to play two of their best games of the season. Friday Gavin Floyd was dominant and the offense supplied eight runs to lead the Sox to an 8-2 win over Justin Verlander and the Tigers.

Saturday it was Edwin Jackson’s turn to keep the Sox (46-48) rolling. Jackson, who has been pretty inconsistant all season, picked the perfect day to throw a gem. The Sox righty went all nine innings allowing no runs on nine hits. Jackson improved his record to 6-7 on the season and lowered his ERA to 3.97.

The offensive stars for the Sox Saturday were Juan Pierre and Carlos Quentin. Pierre had four hits and also stole two bases. Quentin had three hits including his 18th homer in the second inning which turned out to be the only run the Sox would need.

Max Scherzer pitched well for the Tigers (49-45) in defeat. Scherzer went eight innings and allowed just two runs on eight hits. The Tigers righty fell to 10-5 on the season.

The Sox will go for the series sweep Sunday in Detroit.

Sox Go For Series Win Against Tigers

The White Sox couldn't have gotten off to a better start to the second half of the season. They ended a six-game losing streak to the Tigers at Comerica Park and had no problems against one of the best pitchers in baseball.  Although it was just one game, a win Saturday would give the Sox a much needed series win and put them right in the middle of the AL Central race.

Edwin Jackson will make the start for the Sox Saturday. The former Tiger is 5-7 on the season with an ERA of 4.30.  Jackson will look to rebound from his last start at Comerica. On April 23rd, the Sox right-hander gave up eight runs on 12 hits in a 9-0 loss to the Tigers.

The Tigers will counter with Max Scherzer. Scherzer has pitched well for the Tigers this season.  The righty is 10-4 with an ERA of 4.69 on the season. Scherzer has had much better success at home where his ERA is 3.86 as opposed to the road where it is 5.87.

The forecast in Detroit at the time of first pitch is temps in the upper 80's under sunny skies. First pitch is scheduled for 3:10 CST. The game will be televised on Fox.
