Four Sox Pitchers Shut Down Nationals In 3-0 Win

Saturday’s White Sox (38-40) and Nationals (39-38) game started with a worst case scenario for the Sox. With a taxed bullpen after a 14 inning marathon the previous night, the Sox needed starter John Danks to give them at least six or seven innings. Thanks to a strained oblique, Danks wasn’t even able to give them two full innings.

Brian Bruney, Jake Peavy, and Sergio Santos pitched the final seven and a third allowing no runs on just two hits. Peavy was especially dominant. The Sox right hander made his first relief appearance and went four innings allowing just one hit and struckout seven. Peavy improved his record to 4-1 on the season. Sergio Santos pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 15th save of the season.

Tom Gorzelanny was the tough luck loser on Saturday for the Nationals. Gorzelanny went seven innings and allowed just one run while striking out eight White Sox hitters. The Chicago area native fell to 2-6 on the season.

The White Sox will look to win the series Sunday which would be their 18th interleague series win in a row.
