2011 NFL Draft: White Sox Welcome Bears No. 1 Pick Gabe Carimi

No, that headline isn't a misprint.

On Thursday, the Bears made Wisconsin offensive tackle Gabe Carimi their first-round choice in the NFL draft, the 29th overall pick.

But his first appearance before a crowd at an actual Chicago sporting event (after his appearance at Bears Expo at Soldier Field on Saturday) will be at Sunday's White Sox/Orioles game at US Cellular Field, where he'll throw out a ceremonial first pitch, no doubt to loud applause from the Bears fans in attendance.

Whether Carimi will be playing in any actual professional sporting events in Chicago or anywhere else in the near future is still up to a federal appeals court weighing the arguments of the NFL and some of its players in the lockout dispute. In the meantime, your only chance to see Gabe Carimi on a Chicago professional sports field may be prior to Sunday's White Sox game.
