The Chicago Fire are in good shape to make the 2012 MLS playoffs.

The Chicago Fire have had a great September, and with the regular season nearing its end, their timing hardly could have been better. They find themselves in second place in the Eastern Conference with five games to play, and while they certainly can't relax just yet, their odds of making the playoffs are good.

The Fire are just two points behind first-place Sporting KC, and they have an eight-point cushion on sixth-place Columbus. The top five teams in each conference make the playoffs.
