With a loss or Cardinals win, the Diamondbacks will be eliminated from the postseason while the Cubs try to avoid a 100 loss season.
With 97 losses and six games to go, the sole thing left for the Cubs to play for is to avoid the embarrassment of a 100 loss season. On Friday, they'll attempt to avoid loss No. 98 without outfielder Joe Mather as he'll get the day off.
Also getting the day off is Diamondbacks outfielder Jason Kubel, a left handed batter that has averaged .255 for the 2012 season with 90 RBIs. With a loss or a Cardinals win any time in the next week, the Diamondbacks will be officially eliminated from the postseason.
