MLB Trade Rumors 2012: Cubs Not Interested In Derek Lowe, According To Report

Stay connected for news and updates

Despite earlier reports that had linked the Chicago Cubs with Cleveland Indians righty SP Derek Lowe, it appears the north side is not interested in the veteran pitcher:

Lowe, 39, has a 5.52 ERA and a 4.48 FIP through 21 starts and 119 innings pitched. The 16-year veteran is currently sporting a career-low 7.6 percent strikeout rate. He owns a career 15.2 percent career strikeout rate and only a 5.4 percent swinging strike rate in 2012, his lowest such rate since 2002, when swinging strikes were first recorded.

According to FanGraphs, Low is throwing his fastball at just 87.9 mph, which actually comes in faster than his radar readings in 2002 and 2003 when he played with the Boston Red Sox.
