CHICAGO, IL - MAY 06: Jeff Samardzija #29 of the Chicago Cubs, who was hit by a pitch in the 11th inning while pinch-hitting, is congratulated by first base coach Dave McKay #39 after a win over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Wrigley Field on May 6, 2012 in Chicago, Illinois. The Chicago Cubs travel to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers this weekend.
The Chicago Cubs haven't had much success away from Wrigley Field in 2012 -- they own a 16-36 record on the road -- but with Jeff Samardzija on the mound things may get better for at least a night. After a difficult stretch in June, Samardzija was lights out during the month of July. Over five starts (33.0 innings) in July, he allowed just seven earned runs and posted a sparkling 1.91 ERA.
The Dodgers will send Chad Billingsley to the mound opposite Samardzjia on Friday night, so Cubs hitters will have to be on their game if Chicago expects to take the series opener in Los Angeles.
Game date/time: Friday, August 3, 9:10 p.m. CT
Location: Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California
TV: WGN
