Cubs Vs. Brewers: Chicago Bats Remain Cold, Cubs Lose to Milwaukee 3-1

The Chicago Cubs dropped their third consecutive game to Milwaukee on Wednesday night, losing 3-1. For the second night in a row, Milwaukee pitching held the Cubs to a single run, this time on just four hits.

The Brewers got on the board early, when a first-inning fielder's choice scored leadoff man Norichika Aoki. The Cubs tied things up in the second on a fielder's choice of their own, but the Brewers took a permanent lead in the seventh on an RBI single by Jean Segura. The Milwaukee shortstop then attempted a steal of second, took third on an errant throw by Cubs catcher Welington Castillo, and scored on a second Cubs throwing error by second baseman Darwin Barney. The error broke Barney's 917-inning errorless streak. The Brewers bullpen kept the Cubs in check from there.

Despite a solid performance, Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija picked up the loss, dropping him to 8-12 on the season. Brewers starter Mike Fiers was credited with the win. John Axford recorded his 22nd save of the campaign. The Cubs and Brewers finish their four-game series tomorrow afternoon at 1:20 p.m. CT.
