Cubs Sign RHP Seth McClung To Minor League Contract

Stay connected for news and updates

The Chicago Cubs have signed right-handed pitcher Seth McClung to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Iowa, as Bruce Miles of The Daily Herald reports. McClung was released by the Milwaukee Brewers about two weeks ago after struggling badly with their Triple-A affiliate.

McClung, 31, last appeared in the majors with Milwaukee in 2009, posting a 4.94 ERA over 62 innings. His career MLB numbers are a bit worse, though, with a 5.46 ERA and similarly poor peripheral statistics. Unfortunately, his minor league numbers haven't been much better of late.

This season, McClung has posted a 6.36 ERA over 21 appearances (20 starts) with Triple-A Nashville, striking out 80 and walking 60 in 103.1 innings. Over 307 career innings in Triple-A, he has a 4.42 ERA, with far better performance in relief.
