Chicago Cubs Hire Padres Scouting Director, Promote Tim Wilkin

The Chicago Cubs have hired San Diego Padres scouting director Jaron Madison and promoted former scouting director Tim Wilkin to a special assistant role.

Madison, 36, was initially hired by now-Cubs GM Jed Hoyer in 2009. With the Padres, he managed to turn around a long-dormant minor league system in just a short time, according to Baseball America:

During [Madison's] time with the Padres, the club's farm system has improved dramatically, thanks to an influx of talent that includes draft picks such as Jedd Gyorko (2010); Cory Spangenberg, Joe Ross and Austin Hedges (2011); and Max Fried, Zach Eflin, Travis Jankowski and Walker Weickel (2012).

In Wilkin's new position as the special assistant to president Theo Epstein, Wilkin will expand his scouting duties to include major league players.
