Dempster Trade Rumors: Dodgers Considering Trades With Rays, Marlins

Stay connected for news and updates

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Chicago Cubs may have trouble marketing SP Ryan Dempster to the Los Angeles Dodgers for much longer. The Dodgers are reportedly turning their gaze to starters on the Tampa Bay Rays and the Miami Marlins.

The Rays' SP James Shields and the Marlins' SP Josh Johnson are both believed to be on the trade market, which could water down the potential trade value associated with Dempster. The Cubs have been trying to trade Dempster over the last month, but his veteran's 10-and-5 rights have allowed him to already block a trade to the Atlanta Braves.

Dempster, 35, has a 2.25 ERA and 3.40 FIP through 16 starts. He is in the final year of his contract with the Cubs.
