Cubs Vs. Pirates Final Score: Chicago Falls Short Of Sweep With 3-2 Loss

Stay connected for news and updates

The Chicago Cubs lost 3-2 to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday afternoon in what could potentially be Ryan Dempster's final outing with the team this season. The Cubs were looking for a sweep, but they'll have to settle with taking two-of-three from the surprisingly competitive Bucs.

Dempster pitched well for the Cubs on Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits over six innings of work. He didn't walk a single hitter and struck out six, but he was noticeably upset when manager Dale Sveum pulled him from the game after 93 pitches.

Anthony Rizzo had a big game for Chicago, going 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and a walk. Other than Rizzo and David DeJesus, who also knocked two hits in the game, the rest of the Cubs' lineup mustered just one hit on the day.
