Cubs Vs. Pirates Final Score: North Siders Win Behind Brilliant Effort From Paul Maholm

Paul Maholm limited the Pittsburgh Pirates to four hits and one earned run on Tuesday night as the Chicago Cubs earned a 5-1 victory at PNC Park. Maholm improved to 9-6 on the season by striking out seven and only walking one over the course of 109 pitches. The win moves the North Siders to 40-56, while the Pirates fall to 54-42.

Starlin Castro hit a solo homer in the top of the first inning to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead. David DeJesus ripped a two RBI double to deep right in the fifth inning and Alfonso Soriano hit a two-run homer in the sixth to provide Maholm with all the support he would need.

Pittsburgh starter James McDonald well to 10-4 on the season by allowing five runs on five hits over six innings.
