The Chicago Cubs (38-55) could not keep their shutout going against the St. Louis Cardinals (49-45), letting the Cards take the lead in a big way.
SP Matt Garza left the game with a cramp in his right triceps, but the Cubs bullpen self-destructed in the 7th inning with the game tied 0-0. This is how the 7th inning went:

All told, the Cubs allowed 12 runs -- the only runs of the game -- on 10 hits, 2 walks and 0 home runs. SP Jake Westbrook (W, 8-8) took the Cardinals' side of the shutout through the 7th inning, while recently acquired RP Justin Germano (L, 0-1) took the loss for the Cubs after allowing the first hit of the 7th before RP James Russell entered the game.
The Cubs offense, on the other side, mustered only 4 singles -- from their top four hitter -- and 3 walks.
