It may have been a really rough first half of the season for the Chicago Cubs, but they've come out of the All-Star Break in style. Mike Quade's club took care of business and delivered a sweep, beating the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field.
Matt Garza pitched seven terrific innings, scattering five hits while not allowing a run and striking out seven en route to his fifth win of 2012. Carlos Marmol picked up the save, pitching 0.2 innings while surrendering a hit and walk.
The Cubs struck early, scoring once in the first and twice in the second inning to take the lead for good. The initial run was scored by David DeJesus on an RBI single from rookie sensation Anthony Rizzo, with a two-run blast off the bat of Darwin Barney in the following frame.
Arizona starter Trevor Cahill saw his record drop to 7-8 after pitching just 5.1 innings. Cahill was knocked around a bit, being responsible for three runs on four hits and three walks.
