2012 MLB Draft Results: Chicago Cubs Tab Virginia 3B Stephen Bruno At Pick No. 224

With the 224th pick in the 2012 MLB Draft, the Chicago Cubs selected Virginia Cavaliers third baseman Stephen Bruno. Bruno is is 5-9, 165 lbs. and hails from Audubon, New Jersey.

The selection breaks a streak of seven consecutive pitchers drafted by the Cubs. New brain trust Jed Hoyer and Theo Epstein said they wanted to replenish the farm system with power arms, and it looks like they've been able to do just that. Bruno is the first hitter drafted by the North Siders since the team picked outfielder Albert Almaro with the No. 6 overall selection.

  1. OF Albert Almaro (No. 6 overall)
  2. RHP Pierce Johnson (No. 43)
