The Chicago Cubs have outrighted catcher Koyie Hill to Triple-A Iowa after the veteran cleared waivers this week, as Doug Padilla of ESPN Chicago reports. It remains to be seen whether Hill will accept the assignment or opt to become a free agent once again.
Hill was acquired from the Cincinnati Reds back on May 19 as a stopgap when injuries hit. He did little at the plate to convince the Cubs to retain his services going forward, posting a .179/.179/.205 line over 39 plate appearances.
On Thursday, Chicago finally cut ties, designating Hill for assignment in order to remove him from the 40-man roster. Before the Cubs acquired him, he was playing with the Reds' Double-A affiliate.
