RP Kerry Wood will not be fined by the MLB after tossing his equipment into the crowd, according Doug Padilla of ESPN Chicago. The Chicago Cubs reliever threw his hat and glove into the stands following Tuesday night's game, when Wood allowed 2 ER and 2 BB that lead to a Cubs' loss.
Neither the league nor the team appears to be planning punishment for Wood, who responded rather defensively to reporters when asked about the incident. According to manager Dale Sveum, the action was understanding, though no preferable:
"I don’t condone it or wish it to happen all the time, but we all know in this game there is frustration that happens," Sveum said before Wednesday’s game.
The Cubs will play next on Friday night against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Chicago Cubs rode exceptional pitching to a 1-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday afternoon. Paul Maholm pitched seven shutout innings before handing things over to the bullpen in Chicago's second shutout of the 2012 season.
Maholm gave up just three hits and three walks in his seven innings, boosting his record to 4-2 with another impressive start. The lefty has a 1.21 ERA over his past four starts, never allowing more than a single run in any of them. The Braves' Tim Hudson also pitched well, giving up just one run on five hits while walking zero Cubs hitters.
The Cubs got the game's lone run on a two-out RBI single from Bryan LaHair in the seventh inning after David DeJesus started the inning with a single before being sacrificed into scoring position. The first baseman finished the day with two hits, plus Starlin Castro hit his third triple of the season.

Chicago Cubs reliever Kerry Wood has been pretty awful in 2012, sporting a 14.54 ERA and a 2.77 WHIP in 4.1 innings this season, and things boiled over on Tuesday. Wood gave up two runs in the eighth inning on Tuesday night and cost the Cubs the game, which caused him to toss his glove into the stands after the inning in disgust. In the post-game interview, Wood was asked by reporters about the throwing his glove, and from there things got tense.
Wood shot off a visceral response: "Irrelevant, dude. Why the [bleep] would you even bring that up?" He cut off the interview at that point and walked away from the press. Here is the video of Wood's response, via CSN-Chicago:

The Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves headed into the eighth inning tied 1-1 on Tuesday at Wrigley Field, but Dan Uggla clubbed a two-run single off Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood in the eighth to give Atlanta a 3-1 victory.
The win moves the Braves to 19-12, while the North Siders fall to 12-18. Starter Ryan Dempster was against masterful for the Cubs, but still doesn't have a victory on the season. Dempster went seven innings and struck out seven while allowing six hits and just one run.
The Cubs scored their only run in the sixth inning when Alfonso Soriano drove in Tony Campana with a double to right field.
Craig Kimbrel nailed down his 10th save of the season for Atlanta to seal the victory.

The Chicago Cubs (12-17) take on the Atlanta Braves (18-12) on Tuesday, looking to double up after they dominated the Braves 5-1 on Monday. Taking his spot at second base for the first time in his young MLB career, rookie 2B Adrian Cardenas begins what may likely be the beginning of an in-season competition with 2B Darwin Barney for the second-bagger spot.
The Cubs acquired Cardenas on waivers from the Oakland Athletics last February. The 24-year-old infielder was hitting an impressive .319/.376/.521 slash for the Iowa Cubs Triple-A team and has shown considerable plate discipline throughout the minors.
Here is a full look at the lineups for Tuesday's game:

After defeating the Atlanta Braves 5-1 at Wrigley Field on Monday night, the Chicago Cubs have now won three of their last four games. On Tuesday, Cubs baseball will be again be under those rare home lights when Ryan Dempster takes the mound against 22-year old Atlanta starter Randall Delgado.
Demster, who turned 35 years old last week, has been excellent for the North Siders this season, but has little to show for it. Dempster enters Tuesday's game 0-1 but with a sparkling 0.95 ERA and 0.81 WHIP.
Delgado is 2-3 with a 5.14 ERA and 1.46 WHIP.

The Chicago Cubs hit three home runs under the lights at Wrigley Field en route to a 5-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves to open a three-game series on Monday. Starter Jeff Samardzija was excellent for the North Siders yet again, allowing just five hits and one run over seven innings while striking out seven. The win improves the Cubs to12-17, while the Braves fall to 18-12.
Right fielder Jason Heyward gave Atlanta a 1-0 lead in the second with a solo home run. Chicago wouldn't take long to answer. First baseman Bryan LaHair hit his eighth home run of the season to knot the game at 1-1. The next batter, third baseman Ian Stewart, would make it back-to-back solo homers for the Cubs when he took Atlanta starter Tommy Hanson deep for his third homer of the year.
Catcher Geovany Soto hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning for the Cubs, his third of the year.
