Kerry Wood Discusses Future With Organization

Following an emotional farewell on Friday, in which he struck out the final batter he ever faced in his career, Kerry Wood finally had the chance to think about what he wants to do now that he has officially retired. According to the Chicago Tribune, Wood will enjoy time with his family, but will maintain a role with the team:

Wood said he hasn't told the Ricketts about what he wanted to do, but sources said he will be around the team in a multi-capacity role as a "special assistant," like Greg Maddux was for the last two years of the Jim Hendry regime.

"I'm going to take some time here and enjoy the family," Wood said. "I got to go to a Little League game this morning, which was awesome. I'm really just going to enjoy this for a little while. I'm definitely going to miss the game, but I'm going to be watching, and I'll be around."

Wood pitched for 14 years, but his career was unfortunately derailed by 16 trips to the DL. He is probably best remembered for striking out 20 batters in just the fifth start of his career.
