Barack Obama Target Of Massive Attack Ads Put Together By Father Of Chicago Cubs' Owner

On Thursday morning, the New York Times detailed plans of a massive conservative attack ad against President Barack Obama funded by Joe Ricketts, father of Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts. The $10 million plan calls for running TV and newspaper advertisements documenting the relationship of Obama and Reverend Jeremiah A. Wright, the spiritual adviser Obama cut ties with during the 2008 election.

The proposal is intended to show how Obama "misled a nation" by presenting himself as a "metrosexual, black Abe Lincoln". The plan is titled "The Defeat of Barack Hussein Obama: The Ricketts Plan to End His Spending for Good."

From the New York Times:

"Joe Ricketts is prepared to spend significant resources in the 2012 election in both the presidential race and Congressional races," Mr. Baker said in an interview Wednesday. "He is very concerned about the future direction of the country and plans to take a stand."

A few fun facts:

  • The campaign of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has hoped to avoid personal attacks on Obama, just as John McCain's campaign did in 2008.
  • Laura Ricketts, daughter of Joe, is a top contributor to Obama's reelection campaign. "She has not been involved in her father’s political efforts," says the New York Times.
