The Chicago Cubs avoided a four-game sweep at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers with an 8-0 victory on Thursday afternoon. Matt Garza was outstanding on the mound and the Cubs offense got to Milwaukee starter Zack Greinke early on to force the Brewers into the bullpen.
Garza went 8-2/3 innings, striking out nine while allowing just three hits. Greinke was taken out of the game in the fourth inning with eight runs on the board against him.
Chicago got six runs in the third inning to take control of the game; five singles, including a string of four in a row, plated the runs.
