Stay connected for news and updates

The Chicago Cubs continued to approach their 2012 season on Thursday when the team cut their roster from 40 players down to just 31. Here are the list of players cut, according to the official Cubs Twitter account:

The biggest news concerns last year's No. 5 starter SP Randy Wells, who was cut despite general speculation that he would join the Cubs bullpen. Wells started 23 games in 2011, sporting a career-worst 4.99 ERA and 5.11 FIP.

Also among the cuts, SP Travis Wood goes down to Triple-A after spending the last two seasons in the Cincinnati Reds rotation.
